I put this on and cranked up the volume and the music just filled the room.I was worried it would be too compressed or loud, but it feels like the remastering brought it to life.
The drums are insane They have a really BIG sound Great separation and balance. Its a nice 180g pressing, plays flat and quiet, no surface noise at all and you can really turn this up if you want to. My one complaint is that the laminated inner sleeve marked up the vinyl surface pretty badly, even caused some small scratches. I hate to see that on brand new records but still I would buy this for the price you are getting more than stellar sonics. The choruses are what sells it - the first one is more brooding and cold, but by the last one its much more menacing and fast-paced. The only good song he ever had was White Wedding, hence the 1 star. He was a real punk rocker; he joined Siouxsie the Banshees in 1976 and formed Generation X. Published. At the time, I assumed that it was an American import (Idol having recently relocated to the States). It was the first Billy Idol stuff that id bought since his 2 Generation X albums (and associated 7 singles). I liked it. The production on this seems a lot less complicated than his later releases (and IMO, is all the better for it). More of a seventies Lo-Fi feel to it, rather than than the typical overblown eighties over-produced values of his later stuff, if you know what I mean. There are a few weak tracks on it (namely, most of side 2); and Congo Man is an appalling finisher, however its still a great album. In the mid 90s, I bought a sound rescue software package, and this was one of the first vinyls that I converted to Digital. As it was Billys first release since he relocated stateside, it seems to me to be an obvious place to start collecting his music. He went to every early Pistols gig, before playing at the 100 Club (the Cavern Club of Punk Rock) with the fledgling Siouxsie The Banshees. He joined Chelsea as a guitarist in 1977, before absconding (along with 2 other members) to form the fantastic Generation X (check out their material). How much more Punk can you get: he IS English, born in Stanmore, Middlesex, moving to Patchogue, New York, on Long Island in 1958 and returning to England four years later. He moved to Bromley, Kent in 1971, and attended Sussex University to pursue an English degree but left after year one. How much more English can you get: As for White Wedding being his only good song, that would be a matter of opinion, and having read your previous inaccuracies, who gives a flying Fk what you think. Nope, Billy showed us all He kinda kept the punk thing a wee bit, but went for some huge rock anthems like White Wedding, and Dancing With Myself, and Hot In The City obtaining more popularity than Generation X could ever muster. ![]() Billy Idol Album Full Of YouthfulThis is one of his best solo albums in my opinion, and its still full of youthful energy which Billy just excels at, not to mention its a damn lot of fun. Besides Billy Idol rocks, you know it, I know it.end of story Published. White Wedding is a classic for a reason and is probably the most punk-sounding piece here; at the other end of the spectrum, songs like Its So Cruel at points hint at a New Wave take on yacht rock, but with just enough of an edge of cruelty to suggest that there was a dangerous sincerity lurking just under the surface of the albums pristine pop production. Write Idol off if you like, but this debut album reveals that theres more to him than mere pop hooks. ![]() Then it ends up being one of the best songs on the album, due to the rest being a lot slower, a lot more generic and non-consequential in the long run. Billy Idol would imminently become a better pop star but was still in a rocky transition period here, one which makes this debut pretty weak overall. Still, we all know White Wedding and its a fair bet its the reason you even listened to this in the first place. Actually - its not too different from the other songs, its just the best performed and written one.
